The inspiration for the name Jacob in Jacob's Submission Wrestling & MMA comes out of a wonderful Bible story of perseverance. Both Genesis 32 and Hosea 12 speak of Jacob wrestling with an angel of God. Jacob would not quit until he was blessed. The name Jacob means heel grabber which is fitting for submission wrestling where there is a submission called a heel hook. This story of Jacob is one of the oldest written accounts of wrestling which predates the 1st Greek Olympic Games by ~1300 years.

Christians have differing views on self-defense and also differ on what turning the other cheek means. Jesus Christ was the most peaceful man to ever walk this Earth but He was not a pacifist. Consider these accounts. Christ asked His disciples did they have any swords and if they didn’t they were to sell their cloak and buy some. These were for self-defense. Also, notice Christ never told a Roman soldier to lay down his weapons and avoid violence. Christ also made, not found, a whip and drove the moneychangers from the temple. There is such thing as righteous anger that doesn’t lead to sin. We teach a self-defense program, not a program for revenge. Turning the other cheek to us means not escalating the aggression any more than the situation requires even if legally it can be. We believe if violence can be avoided it should be.

Jacob's Submission Wrestling and MMA is an official Toe-hold Club for Scientific Wrestling.  and an affiliate for Snake Pit USA Catch Wrestling Association . We are an authorized  Gracie Garage  for Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Coach Gene aka Doc

I am an ordained Christian Minister serving as the Director of Evangelism and Apologetics at Defend the Word Ministries . I am also the co-founder of Defend the Word Ministries.  I was not brought up in the church. A few years after I got out of the Marines I started searching for the meaning of life and God answered the call. I have had the great pleasure of going to various states in the U.S., as well as Mexico, Canada, Europe, Africa, and Asia preaching the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. I decided along the way becoming formally educated in ministry may be advantageous. My secular education consists of an A.A. in Business Administration and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. My Christian education consists of a certificate in Scientific Apologetics from Reason Institute, B.A. in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary and M.A. in Biblical Counseling with a Ph.D. in Christian Philosophy and Apologetics from Trinity Theological Seminary. I support the Evangelical Philosophical Society, Evangelical Theological Society, Society of Christian Philosophers, International Society of Christian Apologetics (ISCA) and the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC).  I am a volunteer in my local Celebrate Recovery group at my home church, NorthPointe Church . I am also a Reasons to Believe Chapter President and as well a Chapter Director for Ratio Christi. I am a Co-leader for an L.I.F.E. Bible study group with my wife as well as a Journey group Co-leader called Convergence with my wife.

Apologetics means so much to me because I was one of those guys who just could not accept the circular reasoning argument that the Bible is real because the Bible says it is real. I was like Thomas and James. I needed proof. Apologetics using facts and logical arguments would have helped my unbelief. I was never called to pastor a church. Instead, my calling is to lead the lost to salvation which comes from the Good News of Jesus Christ and help build up the saints using Theology and Apologetics. AMEN!!!

As stated before, I am a former infantry Marine so I have a lot of weapons and hand to hand combat training. As far as submission wrestling/MMA I have been involved in it since 2004 although I have been wrestling for more than 30 years (7th grade). I have a copper and bronze level USA Wrestling coaches card. I am also a member of AAU Wrestling I am a certified catch wrestler through Scientific Wrestling and Snake Pit USA. I am also a proud Gold member and representative coach for Snake Pit USA Catch Wrestling Association.  I also have a black belt in Koo Karate which I received in 1998. The purpose of this training program is for self-defense. We only use proven programs in our training sessions. I have won gold medals in BJJ and wrestling but being able to win medals only prepares you for battle. to a certain extent. Great news. The programs we teach here do prepare you for battle but be advised they will most likely get you disqualified in most sports tournaments. There is a huge difference between street jiu-jitsu and sports jiu-jitsu. Click here for a video on the difference. If self-defense Jiu Jitsu is what you are looking for you can also visit Chattanooga Jiu-Jitsu Academy . Mickey is awesome. If you are around New Jersey you should go visit one of my coaches Joel Bane at  Modern Martial Arts  or if you are around Arizona you should visit one of my other coaches John Potenza at  Average Joe's MMA .

May God be Honored and Praised,

God Speed

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience..." (1 Peter 3:15-16, ESV)

Coach Robert aka Chief

Most of you may know me as the AWANA Commander for NorthPointe Church. I am also a retired police chief, prior service Marine, and have taught self-defense and survival skills for over 35 years. I knew from a young age I was meant to protect others. This calling is what led me to become a military policeman in the Marine Corp. It is there that I was exposed to several unique forms of martial arts which include Isshinryu from Okinawa, Japan, Aikido from Mainland Japan, and Hapkido which is Korean. I developed a keen interest, and respect for, Hapkido which primarily focuses on pressure point strikes, joint locks, and throws. I have used and studied, Hapkido throughout my career. In the past I started, and ran, Explorer Programs and Young Marine Programs to teach teens basic skills and self-defense. I currently own Sheepdog Executive Services and teach armed-defense courses that enable families to stay safe.

I volunteer each summer in the Feed the Children Program. I am a member of the American Legion Honor Guard and am thankful to all who served. In 2016 I completed my Bachelor’s degree at Shorter College and earned a minor in Christian Studies. I am quite interested in defending the word of God and helping others cope with all that life throws their way. I am married to my wonderful wife, Pamela, and have one grown son, Joshua. God was very generous when he put them in my life and I will be forever grateful.

“for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. (Romans 13:4, ESV).
